S O M E I D E A S O N C U R R I C U L U M Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability K - 12 Activities wouid be both hands-on and lecture - stressing the understanding of our personal and environmental interdependency. Programs strive to reinforce each individual's responsibility in caring for the environment. Parent and teacher involvement emphasized. Green parenting skills taught and incorporated.
K - 3 Children are introduced to the basic vocabulary of our natural environment. They learn what it means to be a member of a community through cooperation and understanding. Integrates the arts and sciences with the natural environment to help children realize that they are part of a whole physical and social community. Teachers are encouraged to initiate changes in their school sites and include gardens and natural areas.
4 - 5 Grade students build on these introductory concepts to include respect for themselves and others. More involved projects are introduced with a higher level of expectation in completion. Field trips include: natural parks, organic farms, marine laboratories.
6 - 8 Grade students curriculum broadens to encompass issues of sustainability, green techologies, and environmental threats and their affect on human health. Exploration of the relationships among human heritage, human culture and regional ecology are emphasized.
9 - 12 High School Students have an opportunity to choose elective courses on environmental stewardship and sustainability toward their high school dipolma. Ecological thinking and solution orientation is emphasized. The design and development of ecovillages are encouraged.
College and University Programs
Core areas of research and study would include: role and responsibility of individuals and business in relation to today's critical moral, environmental and social dilemmas. The development of a collaborative network for business leaders, entrepreneurs and scholars would be encouraged.
Accredited coursework: Principles and Practices of Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability, Green Technologies, Corporate Social Responsibility, Biodiversity, Environmental Health Issues.
