W H A T   W E   C A N   L E A R N 

A "whole person" approach to health and wellbeing with an emphasis on acquiring knowledge, practice skills, good-decision making around nutrition and fitness; human development and relationships; safety and conflict resolution; substance abuse prevention; and community health and media influence.

K - 3 An instructional and fun filled program that starts with the basic introduction of our major body systems and their function to the basic vocabulary of our natural environment. Children learn what it means to be a member of a community through cooperation and understanding. Children are introduced to the basic vocabulary of emotions. They learn cooperation and problem-solving skills and develop an understanding of what it means to be a member of a group. Hands-on guided meditation, yoga, dance, music, are taught and teachers are encouraged to continue practice in their classrooms.

4 - 5 Grade students build on these introductory concepts to include respect for themselves and others. More involved projects are introduced with a higher level of expectation in completion. Social-emotion literacy introduced to encourage students to examine their own thoughts and actions and be sensitve to the feelings and needs of others. Curriculum includes development of listening skills and the ability to set academic goals. Students are introduced to the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of well-being.

6 - 8 Middle school curriculum broadens to encompass the physical and emotional changes of adolescence, providing guidance to analyze stressful social situations and develop peer leadership skills. Knowledge of nutritional groups and the key functions for each is discussed. Examination of the dangers of dysfunctional eating and the influence of the media on making healthy choices.

9 - 12 High school curriculum focused on responsible healthy lifestyles. Offers students an opportunity to acquire knowledge, practice skills and develop attitudes that can benefit them throughout life. Students build a strong foundation of good decision-making skills around self and others. Subject matter includes: healthy self, substance abuse prevention, human development and relationships, disease prevention, nutrition and fitness.
